I met Brad two days before he found out his father who has been absent from most of his life was in a home and had been diagnosed with Huntington's Disease. As a hereditary disease, this meant he had a 50/50 chance of inheriting Huntington's.
At the time, he lived in Denver, I lived in Long Beach and in a few weeks we found ourselves in Belize, falling in love, all the while with a question mark of what the future would grant us. Not your typical first date chatter.
The following few months Brad went through the process of getting tested and we bounced back between Denver and Long Beach, documenting the entire journey.
Before meeting Brad, I knew little to nothing about the disease and the more information I absorbed, the more it felt like I was tightrope walking between heartbreak and hope.
The good news? The best news? Brad's coin toss was our greatest relief. He did not inherit the disease.
We are not untouched by the experience or the disease and therefore decided to run the NYC Marathon this November for the Huntington's Disease Society of America.
Please watch the trailer of 'Breaking Ice' below and see how Brad faced the unknown while he heads to Minnesota to see his father who he has seen once in the last twenty years prior to this meeting.
Please consider donating to help us each raise $3500 to further advancements and research in regards to Huntington's.
